Day 7
Jemma is a week old today!
We had some bad news today, the ultrasound of her brain last night shown that both sides of her brain bleed have become a category 4. The doctor then began to tell us that any brain growth restrictions will not become noticeable for roughly a month after the incident happened if it impedes the brain from developing. They will measure her head weekly to check for engorging due to blood. They talked about putting in a stint or a reservoir in her soft spot if they need to drain blood. Tomorrow we meet with the neurologist to get a better understanding of what to expect and what to watch for.
Her blood sugar has stabilized and they have changed doing a blood sugar test from once every three hours to one every six. She has also been taken off of her extra glucose IV and increased in milk feedings.
Her bilirubin has gone down again, and soon we should see her without the blue light. Then she won't have to use her eye covers! This light treatment will most likely come back as her bilirubin increases during her stay in the NICU, this is normal.
She was Super aware today when we took off her eye covers. Was looking around for a good 20 minutes with her eyes wide open! She's so cute.

Praying for that brain bleed to stop. Again, thank you for keeping us updated
