We had a routine appointment with the obgyn to check on little miss Jemma. Her growth had been becoming worrisome and our doctor decided our appointments needed to become weekly. As the ultrasound sound tech started we could see the look on her face that something was wrong. She finished and left rather in a rush. Next thing we know we’re getting hauled into our doctors office and not a medical room. After looking on ultrasound and seeing the heart beat and taking my blood pressure we told "GO TO THE ER! You might need a C-Section."

We were thinking, okay, after our first pregnancy going to the ER does not an emergency make. We got settled into the ER and I got hooked into monitors and labs drawn. We were talked through a slew of options, all from maybe needing a C-Section to going home on bed rest. After a few hours it was decided for the health and safety of Jemma I needed an emergency C-Section at 30 weeks. Her heart beat wasn’t great she wasn’t moving she was breach I had edema and sky high blood pressure. So in the span of two hours give or take things went from maybe you could be going home to let’s scrub you down this baby needs to come out now! At 530 our beautiful Jemma Bethlynn Parks came into the world. She will probably be spending the next five to ten weeks in the Fairfax NICU. From the moment she came out she as been a fighter. It’s only been 2 days and sweet girl is already getting breast milk in her feeding tube. She is having some complications but nothing completely unexpected for a preemie. Some of those complications are balancing and regulating her sugar, her kidney functions, acidosis in her blood, and a very very small hole in her heart. It was has been a shotgun of new words, acronyms and information thrown at us.

We know God has his loving hand over us and he has a plan specifically crafted for Jemma and it’s for Good. Your prayers and positive thoughts are very appreciated. We will do our very best to keep this blog updated so if you have any question please check this out. We are going have our hands full over the next few months and it’s overwhelming to have to try an answer everyone individually. We very much appreciate your love and care for Jemma and our us.
